چکیده

In this paper, the performance of ATM switches with self-similar input traffic is analyzed. The ATM switch is a non-blocking, output-buffered switch, and input traffic is approximated by a Poisson-Zeta process, which is an asymptotically second-order self-similar process. The upper and lower bounds of the buffer overflow probability of the switch are obtained by stochastically bounding the number of cells arriving in any interval of time. These upper and lower bounds are very tight and give reliable estimates of the buffer overflow probability. The self-similar behavior of traffic has serious implications on the buffer overflow probability of the switches. In contrast to typical ATM traffic models currently considered in the literature, the buffer overflow probability decreases non exponentially with buffer size. On the Relative Importance of Arrival Statistics and Output Addressing for Shared-Buffer ATM Switches

Traffic arrival processes are the important ingredients for the performance evaluation of ATM switches. Three important aspects of traffic models are the arrival pattern, output address correlation and, output address (or hot-spot) distribution. Here we investigate the relative importance of selfsimilar traffic model vs bursty traffic model, under the various conditions of output addressing, an...

Variable Length Packet Switches: Delay Analysis of Crossbar Switches under Poisson and Self Similar Traffic

We consider crossbar switches for switching variable length packets. Analysis of such switches is important in the context of IP switches where the packet interarrival times and packet lengths are drawn from continuous distributions. Assuming a single stage M N switch we obtain a very general throughput delay model for Poisson packet arrivals and exponential service times. We then analyze an M ...

An accurate performance model of shared buffer ATM switches under hot spot traffic

Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches based on shared buffering are known to have better performance and buffer utilization than input or output queued switches. Shared buffer switches do not suffer from head of line blocking which is a problem in simple input buffering. Shared buffer switches have previously been studied under uniform and unbalanced traffic patterns. However, due to the co...

Performance evaluation of multiple input-queued ATM switches with PIM scheduling under bursty traffic

In this letter, we analyze the performance of multiple input-queued asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches that use parallel iterative matching for scheduling the transmission of head-of-line cells in the input queues. A queueing model of the switch is developed under independently, identically distributed, two-state Markov modulated Bernoulli processes bursty traffic. The underlying Markov ...

Modeling and Performance Evaluation of ATM Switches

In this work, we present a Colored Petri Net (CPN) model used for prototyping and modeling a complex switching scheme for ATM switches based on the combined I/O buffering technique. The new scheme is evaluated here within an overall setting that includes the traffic regulations enforced by the leaky bucket algorithm. It is based on splitting the traffic coming into input lines into two priority...
